Wordless Wednesday #15: The Last Word

Wordless Wednesday - Button Image by Smarmoofus

Actually it's the last image my first 35mm SLR ever caught before succumbing to some dysfunction I never figured out. But it went out with a winner I'd say.

I'll say! This picture has such a vibe of such peacefulness. The architecture just invites you in and asks you to stay a while. The lighting makes the moment unforgettable.

Where is this house? What an extraordinary building.

My old film-based SLR is still going strong. I held onto it when I bought my DSLR because it was worth so little and I just couldn't bear to get rid of it for the pittance that I could have gotten. So it sits on my nightstand, and strangely enough, I feel comfortable having it there. About once a year, I run a roll of b&w film through it, just because I want to always remember what it feels like.

I know, weird.

Carmi's right... That is a beautiful building, Mojo. The only thing I would wish is that they had some lights on in the windows. But that is out of your control. The shot is lovely.

That was actually the dying breath of my first film SLR. My second one (a Canon EOS A2) I still have and it's still got a lot of life left. Even more now that I rarely use it. But I get what you mean Carmi. Not having an actual physical transport mechanism just feels different.

The building is -- I believe -- actually a house, or was at one time. It's on Front Street in Beaufort, NC right across the street from the harbor. Beaufort's historic district has a lot of houses like this one dating back as far as 1709. And this shot was really earlier in the evening than it looks like. Which probably explains why the lights were off. But you're right Smoofus, that would've been a great addition. I could've waited I suppose, but the moon would've moved on me.

And mommywiz, The Tonka Unit thanks you. (He's a handsome devil ain't he?)

I love Beaufort and that is a terrific photo!

Great photo for a camera that then killed itself...

Rambling: I'm pretty sure it wasn't suicide. Earlier that evening I had taken several shots of the sunset, and even with the polarizer and an ND filter it was more light than the camera stop down to. I don't know for sure, but I suspect I fried one or both shutter curtains in the process. I got some pretty spectacular shots, but it was a very expensive lesson. Expensive enough that I decided it was more cost-effective to replace the camera than repair it.

Kenju: Beaufort is one of my favorite places on the planet. Even though I've seen pretty much all there is to see of it, I never get tired of going there. And frankly I'm surprised I can't remember precisely what this house is used for ... I do remember it's between Clawson's and the Post Office on Front Street, but that's about all.

I like the shot the way it is. You can't help that the owners didn't cooperate. Waiting would've meant you lost that hint of pink on the face of the building, the beautiful blue sky, and the moon. It's a very warm photo, even without the light from the windows.

Oh, I responded to your comment with a link to a photo that shows Spike with Cierra. You'll likely see it on your own, but I thought I'd let you know so you can come look... :)

Last picture? Tried sending it to the service centre to check out the problem of the SLR? Will be a shame for it to retire, given such nice shots :)

napa: That was three cameras ago, and it served me well while I had it, but it was an entry level model and fixing anything significant with it would have cost more than replacing it. So I upgraded -- a little sooner than I'd planned. But I thought it was pretty cool that the last shot I took with it came out this well.

Hey, beautiful shot. That house looks so very beautiful and welcoming. And the moon--it doesn't look like it cares much to rise beyond the comforts of home.

What a great looking old mansion. I'd love to live in a place like that. (As if I could afford to keep it up.)

Definitely the way to go out if it had to happen. I love the cool colors here, and the moon just over the rooftop is great.

All I want to know is do they have room service at this place?

Its a sure winner! Magnificently captured with the full moon at the back. Very nice house too, just like the houses I use to construct in SIM2. Sorry about your SLR, it has been worth its while. Thanks for sharing Mojo!

Happy WW! :)
