Monochrome Monday #15: Cone Estate

"Moses Cone Manor"
Moses Cone Memorial Park, NC - February 2001 (Click to embiggen)

The Moses Cone Manor House (formally known as Flat Top Manor) gained a measure of national and international fame as the set for several scenes in the Tom Hanks movie The Green Mile. There wasn't anything quite so interesting going on there this day since the house was closed for the season. The trails around it are still open though, as is the rest of the Moses Cone Memorial Park. Locally, the house and the park that surrounds it were already fairly well known. Between the columns on the front porch, you see the slope above the lake down in the valley (featured earlier in Photo Hunt #6: Theme 141 - "Wide").

I guess this was where Dabs Greer entered the story as the older Hanks.
It was nice seeing him again, he was everywhere at one time.

Love it Mojo! I love the tours you take us on - especially the B&W ones. We gave you a little love today here...

Nice framing. The grounds look like a beautiful place for a sunny day's ramble.

You've inspired me, I think I'm going to play along this week too.

Re your comment on our site, no sympathy! Andy enjoyed the hockey beatdown. Molly is happy Andy is happy - though not sure how to feel about the Canes - from Carolina, but also lived in Hartford and watched the Whale turn into the Canes.

Virtual touring can take us anywhere. Interesting trip out peeping through.

That was one gripping movie. The perspective makes me feel like I'm caught in something big!

Ahh....I've been there. I have a picture of my ex-husband and I with our 2-year-old son standing in front of that VERY fence you photographed. It is a breathtaking scene for sure. I remember the expansive grey-painted front porch (with rockers) and thinking how awesome it would have been to have lived there.
Thanks for posting this! A great memory for me.

Perfect! Mojo, you find the angle! There's an escape possible out of every human building, now, I can see it.
When you wrote about Green Mile, I was thinking about jail, in fact, rest-home could be a second prison!

Please, Mojo, when you comment on Aileni's, leave us some little things to say too! : )

the pillars look like you've pulled them apart like a curtain to see the view beyond. it's beautiful...

I love black and white photos. I plan later in year to take b/w photos of all the castles in spokane for the wall in my office.

Enoying reading about your travels.

Wonderful shot and thanks for the interesting info on it. When I first saw it, I thought I was looking out of a long window with curtains on both sides! Happy Monday.

Love peeking out windows! It is much safer than peeking in them! :)

I didn't realize they were pillars either until I looked again, very nice framing and love the shot.

I love the mood you struck as you placed your viewer in the room looking outward from behind the curtain.

Love the idea from inside to outside, Mojo! And just a glimpse. Very nice!
