Sepia Scenes #14: Wagons Ho!

"My Little Bronze Wagon"
Raleigh, NC - December 2008 (Click to embiggen)

Sepia Scenes - Brought to you by Mary the Teach

This wagon sits outside the Yates Mill Historic Site on the southern edge of Raleigh. There's no signage explaining what it was used for back in the days when the Yates' were still milling (just one that politely asks you not to climb on board), but a with little imagination you can picture it loaded with sacks of flour or corn meal, a stubborn mule deciding if and when he wanted to tow it to market. Now it just sits and invites you to imagine life as it was then.

Very good picture. I love the angle it was taken at.

Looks great in sepia. I'll have to keep this place in mind, we're visiting our kids in Clayton in June.

I love Yates Mill. Been there exactly once, and will be going back. The spillway by the millpond is one of the bestest places on earth.

No AAA sticker on the back, then? I imagine if things moved slower back they had to on account of the shock absorbers weren't really up to much then.

Great atmosophere. Amazing how sepia can take an image out o ftime.

Terrific shot of a perfect subject. I can almost hear it creaking.

I grew up in the country, and I can remember people using wagons just like this one for everything from yardwork to driving to town. We had a couple of cars and a truck, but some people actually relied on this as their only mode of transportation. That was in the 1960's. Not that long ago!

Terrific wagon. Love it. Who could not. So evocative of a simpler world gone by.

Mojo, now that I read my comment I can see how you wondered who shot the cemetery scenes... I did shoot the Flushing cemetery scenes. I meant my SS post for this week wasn't up yet which is of course up now. It's the tree house post.
