Blue Monday #26: Pot Heads

"Fire Dancers"
Cary, NC - October 2008 (Click to embiggen)

Clever title aside, this performance at the Cary Diwali Festival 2008 was pretty amazing to watch. I wish I'd been closer so I could have gotten a better shot of these dancers. You can't tell it from the photo, but those pots on their heads actually had something burning in them. I'd like to think that the entire pot wasn't full of lamp oil or some other kind of fuel because one wrong step could turn that into a really ugly scene if that were the case.Violence Unsilenced

I love the movement in this shot, it really brings that riotous color to life. I can almost hear the music playing.

And of course the title is a clear winner ;-). You are truly the king of puns.

I got nervous just thinking about the possibilities. What lovely clothes they are wearing, but I would think they add to the difficulty.

Cute title, and the picture is a good one, considering that there is movement and you're taking it from the audience. Thanks for sharing. Happy Blue Monday.

You managed to capture the movement of the dresses. That's my favorite part of this photo. The colors must have been outstanding in real time. Would love to see them in daylight.

Have a good week.

I bet that's quite a sight in person. I would be very nervous for them!

Beautiful colors! The whole photo is a palette of color and I almost expect the photo to move...the suggestion of movement is very strong. :))

They keep earthen lamps inside to dance, very common in India with dancers balancing the "pot" for classical dances. Sometimes, they balance the little lamps (diyas)on their bare hands to dance! :)

Very colorful photo.

Nice photo....love all the colors and action going on in there. Good your back from vaca.....ha! It's because you had that beach photo that looked like Gulf Shores, that's why I thought you were on vacation.

At first I thought they were figurines. How cool that they are people! I bet that takes lots and lots of practice!

Nicely captured. I love how the dancer's faces exude concentration. Well, except for the one in the back right. She's just having fun.
