Monochrome Monday #22: Heading For The Falls

"Headed for a Fall"
Linville River, NC - February 2001 (Click to embiggen)

This is the Linville River near Boone, NC before it begins its plunge between the rocks at Linville Falls. The calm surface here gives you no clue what you'll encounter just a few hundred yards downstream.Violence Unsilenced

Any trout?
Daft, I know, but I can smell the water, that particular tang.

Nice shot. I was there this past fall. We stayed a few miles from Linville Falls. My mother was from Boone and I still have a lot of family in that area.

The river has a nice calm and silky look.....
What's further down?

RIvers get mysterious hidden secrets. It's better knowing the place, before throwing oneself into the river.
The light on the picture is perfect : from white to black with the whole gradation between.

The water looks so perfectly still. Would love to see the rough part too. Great mono shot.

That coul be a low shot of a high tide of my nature reserve. Serene is the word. Just to look upon this gives you a sense of well being.

Isn't that the way of life? What looks like calm on the surface can be hiding turmoil underneath.

For five years now, I've lived right on the bank of the CT River in western Massachusetts; you can see it from my front yard. Living right on a body of water like this has really made me appreciate rivers in general. There is always so much rich history associated with rivers.

Lovely shot in black and white.

So you're lazily floating along in your little inner tube and then AWWWWW, then OWWWW. :) It sure looks peaceful there!
