Ruby Tuesday #30: Hoosier Daddy Part III

Ruby Tuesday - Are you red-dy? Hosted at
In case you missed it: Check out my entry in Nicole B's Scavenger Hunt!
I mentioned a few weeks ago that my visit to Indiana University had netted a great many Ruby Tuesday-worthy photos, and this is another of those. I've seen this type of flower before (I believe it's called salvia, based on what my more knowledgeable readers have told me) but never in this deep a shade of red. The light could account for some of the darkening, but not nearly all of it. Obviously I liked it... or I wouldn't have committed it to film. Mary suggested that this week we might want to post something green in honor of St. Patty's Day, but left the "red option" open for us purist types. I figured why choose between the two if you don't have to? So I swapped this post with another scheduled one and voila! -- a red and green Ruby Tuesday.Violence Unsilenced

Hey Mojo
Loved all your fun comments on my blog.
I have four arms so I can carry more textiles when in India.
I love that flower we have it here but its a much lighter red color.

Hope all is well!
:)

Beautiful shrub, the perfect blend of green and red for this holiday RT. I understand red at IU, but green too??

Hello Mojo,
Just beautiful. is the sage (or salvie - that would also be the Norwegian word) already blossoming?
That will not happen till July in my herbal garden.
The old Greeks said "Eat salvie in May and you'll live forever."
Might be worth a try!

Subtle and lovely, both the colors and the photo.

Love your photo. My dad used to always plant salvia but I have never before seen such a deep red shade, it is beautiful!

The red and white with the stone wall all come together beautifully!
You'll have to forgive my not knowing the correct term to use, but I like your focus or non-focus effect here. :)

Nice contrast between the white red and green, Christmas scenes are filling my head up.

There's problems with blogger pre-post?

Hi Mojo,
I love your comments too. you just have a way to make everyone's day a little brighter.

And I love this crawling blossom. I am wondering if it is some type creeping Phlox?

Whatever it is...it's fantastic!!

I like the contrast between the deep colors of the plant and the pale wall. That wall's got great texture too.

Shinade's comment made me laugh - creeping Phlox sounds like a disease!

I have never seen this shade of red in Salvia flowers. Could there be a corpse buried under it? haha....

We have Salvia here too, but I have never seen any in this rich ruby color. I couldn't say whether it's good to eat, but I reckon Felisol would know about such things. :)

Beautiful flowers! I also tend to get some trouble naming them and leave it to the viewer most of the time ;). Best wishes.

The garden does seem to be the place to find green and red together :)

Thanks for your visit earlier this week. I love scarlet salvia. My mom used to grow huge quantities of it, but not this deep a red. Must be a new cultivar. She used to grow it with blue ageratums at the base. Nice Ruby Tuesday post.
