That's My World Tuesday #22: NC Aquarium

"Outside NC Aquarium"
Pine Knoll Shores, NC - October 2008 (Click to embiggen)

In case you missed it: Check out my entry in Nicole B's Scavenger Hunt!

If you've been hanging around here for a while you've seen several shots of the inside of the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. This sculpture is outside the building and greets visitors on the way in. The aquarium was shut down for nearly two full years while undergoing an almost complete renovation, but this display was in front of the "old" building as well.

Though not especially large, the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium boasts an impressive array of native species of both fresh and salt water varieties, and has essentially recreated an entire ecosystem in its main tank. The main tank hosts not just marine life, but a 1/3 scale replica of the U-352 which was sunk by the USCG cutter Icarus off the North Carolina Coast in 1942.Violence Unsilenced

I have enjoyed visiting that aquarium but have never taken photographs there. It's only been in recent years that I've started photographing everywhere I go. I like this shot you took.

I really liked that art, the fish were almost alive, even though they were statues. Would love to visit the aquarium some day! I love aquariums... Maybe because my grandfather was a sea captain and because there are so few fish to view here in Niger? :-)

That sculpture is really fascinating. My daughter, husband and I visited there a couple of years ago. We have our pictures made in front of those fish.

If the outside is so beautiful, how much more will the inside be!

Thansk Mojo. You have some impressive shots of the sea creatures, especially the jelly fish. I had missed your recent posts of the aquarium.

What a lovely sculpture outside the aquarium ... makes me want to visit, but since you're on the other coast, I may need to settle for a local aquarium ;--)
I shared part of MY WORLD at Sacred Ruminations today.
