The Doors #9: "Truth In Advertising?"

"Maybe the Place Caters To SCUBA Enthusiasts, You Never Know."

I can't tell you very much about this place that you can't see for yourself. I've never actually been there, but given its location I'd say it probably took its name more for the sound of it than any "real" reason. If the Glenwood South District were a river, this intersection of Glenwood Ave, and Hillsborough Street would be the headwaters. Truly, the convenience store next door seems more in keeping with the "dive" atmosphere than the bar. But the gent working out in the parking lot seemed a trifle too interested in what I might be doing and rather than explain, I thought it best to move along. So I didn't research things further.Violence Unsilenced

I am never sure if Dive Bar is a comment or the name of the bar ... we have one here in NYC too

LOL! My dad used to own a scuba gear shop - so your caption underneath is hilarious. And I like the sweeping guy caught-in-the-headlights.

I can imagine a whole lot about this place just from the name!

We have a place called "Dive Bar" here in SJ too... it is near the train station and it is reallllly dark and kinda ookey.

I only go there when I have a big stud man on my arm.

But it is one of my faves.

Well, it does leave a lot for speculation...Dive in, stagger out?...Scuba diving inside?....oooohhhh, the possiblities. Your photos always open avenues for stories. Good shot.

This made me think of the old joke about naming your band "Free Beer." I can just picture the marquis: Dive Bar Featuring Free Beer!

Well, if it is near the beach, perhaps it is a hangout for divers???

For some reason I totally like this shot.
The way that guy looks at you, broom in hands, the sunlight,...
The name? Surely from all the people diving under the bar, dead drunk :)

Oxygen tanks? Check. Flippers? Check.

Broom? Er, what?

Nice shot and a great explanation, Mojo.
