There are a few characteristics that qualify a nosh as good "Road Food". First, it shouldn't be overly heavy. Second, it shouldn't be terrifically spicy or salty or dry enough to require copious applications of beverageness to get it down. (After all, the idea here is to keep moving, not stopping to shake out the kidneys.) It should require no refrigeration, be manageable with one hand and not leave the hands sticky and gooey. A preponderance of crumbs is considered a negative too, but not necessarily a show stopper unless said crumbs are moist and sticky. And last but not least it should be something you'll enjoy eating -- otherwise, what's the point?

Enter the Power Bar, Stage Left with a new flavor that happened to be on special this crisp mornign in early December as I was headed to points east to photograph a dog trial. I should point out that not all Power Bars are created equal when it comes to their roadworthiness. While the ones in the "Crunch" category are tasty enough, they violate the Preponderance of Crumbs Principle and the "granolesque" members of that group also miss on the Relative Dessication Scale. The chocolate coated ones and the taffyesque ones do the best job -- provided of course that your vehicle can keep a suitable temperature to avoid melting. Of course if that environment can't be maintained, then the whole Power Bar family may be called into question because of the high Coefficient of Goo.

That would include this entry, which was relatively new at the time and surprisingly good. No cholcolate involved, which made me suspicious at first, but the spice-cake like flavor was pleasing enough, the bar held together well and it was satisfying enough that I didn't want another one immediately. Overall, I'd rank the Power Bar (Cinnamon Roll Flavor) high on the list of Foodius Locomoticus.Violence UnSilenced
