Ruby Tuesday #37: "Grounded"

"Grounded"
Raleigh, NC - October 2008 (Click to embiggen)

Ruby Tuesday - Are you red-dy? Hosted at

This shot is actually an outtake from another theme. Sometime last year the Thematic Photographic prompt for the week was "Grounded". Never being one to take one shot when two will do the job, I came up with several shots I liked -- including this one.Violence UnSilenced

Hi, Mojo,
This is not fair.
You show a perfect mix of light, shadow, colors and curves.
I have worked on this for a week, and feel so blur..

Then, I hope you can comfort me, telling you've making pix like this for years!

Some kind off piping feature?

Grounded..I'm beginning to like that word. At least I'm the one saying to the kids now and not my folks saying that to me! LOL

This reminds me of the things my husband has me helping him with in the garage. Great shot & great color.

I get it, grounded did you use a battery? looks like the red in the back is the positive connection for a charger? just a guess.

This is interesting. I figured the clamped was the end of a battery cable since you are talking about grounded. So what is a battery cable (if that is what it is) doing holding on to a pipe? And, what is the pipe attached to?

Interesting! I can't really figure out what is it. :)

Does red dates exist? I think i have one but i know it's not dates.

Mine is here - http://sunshine-photoblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/ruby-tuesday-31.html

Hi again, Mojo,
I am always intrigued by what I do not understand. Had to call inmy husband for help in "your case".
He took a quick glance, smiled, praised your photo skills and taught me a bunch of new English terms.

The red, he said, is a vice holding a pipe. An earth clamp or ground clamp is attached to the pipe.(Or vice versa). Then this tiny cable is hooked on the clamp on the right upper side of the picture., preventing the handyman from getting electrocuted while working.
He even offered me a tour in his garage to demonstrate the principles.

I did not accept that kind invitation. There was an uncertain amount of risk involved that I did not want to examine.

Thank you for kind and uplifting words.
Also I have had fun with your enigmatic photo.

Stay grounded, please.

Interesting. Nice one.

It's me again, Felisol,
i just remember; I never asked why this elaborate grounding of a copper pipe was necessary.
I'll have to ask Gunnar, if he comes in from the garage...

I was thinking of a battery ground as well, but the pipe had me. Whatever it is... it IS a great shot!

My first ruby tuesday is here.

A pipe thread device? I am left to wonder, but I enjoy the functional beauty dictated by that function. An abstract mechanical view, for sure...
