Blue Monday #38: "Training Aid"

"Waiting For A Ride"
Jacksonville, NC - December 2008 (Click to embiggen)

In the sport of Schutzhund the participants (the canine ones at least) must pass an obedience trial under a variety of conditions. The dogs must be trained to respond only to command regardless of distractions.

In a Schutzhund trial, therefore, the dogs are tested under a variety of conditions including a person riding a bicycle past them. The successful candidate will remain in whatever basic position the handler places them until told to move or remain at heel during the walking phase of the test. Since the trial I went to lasted two days, the bicycle used in that part of the trial was left at the field overnight, stashed between these two stacks of pallets where I found it before the competition began on the second morning. It looked lonely, so I snapped a few photos just so you can see what a lonely bicycle looks like.Violence Unsilenced

That does look lonely. Rusty too. Great shot though.

Do you have any idea how long Miss Gulch has been looking for that, Mojo? And what did you do with her basket?

Very lonely! But joking aside..., I admire how these dogs are trained, or rather can be trained. It's a great capture!

Great photo! That is some pretty tough training. Did you pass? Congrats to you and the dog either way because it is quite an undertaking from what I understand.

What an interesting story to go along with the picture. Thank you for sharing. Happy Blue Monday.

BTW: We've lived and worked in South Florida for over 45 years. I've already retired a couple years ago, and I'm only moving four hours north to Tampa--still Florida.

It does look a little forlorn. That competition sounds interesting. I don't think my dog would make it past the first round...Robyn

Sorry so late Mojo, catching up! I liked this idea a lot, that poor bike looks so lonely there tho but implemented for a good cause.
