my world tuesday #73: written orders

Be a virtual tour guide on That's My World Tuesday
I finally had to look this up because the curiosity was killing me.

Turns out that "humping" is a method of sorting and coupling (oh grow up!) freight cars to make up trains. The cars are pushed to the top of a man-made hill (a hump) and over the other side where a series of switches routes them to the proper train. This method is much faster than shuttling cars hither and yon with an engine, but isn't so friendly to certain types of cargo since the impact of the two cars slamming together can damage one or both. Cars with these kinds of loads are marked "Do Not Hump" so the crews will know to set them aside for special handling. (Source: )

Ooooo-kay then. Will be sure not to hump. Not that I would have anyway, but now at least I have justification for my non-humping intentions.

Great catch Mojo.

Too funny. So much for the romance of the old style trains with elegant dining cars and sleeping compartments. Sort of like the "Murder on the Orient Express" era train. This sign graphically expressing the different era of today. Fantastic capture.

What a hoot! I hope you're paying attention to the rules!! Terrific capture as always, Mojo! Love it! Of course, I did nearly choke on my lunch, but that's what I get for eating at the computer! Have a great week!

I wonder about this the same way I wonder about our "speed humps" in Chicago. Everyone else in the world has speed bumps. What gives?

I'm much too old to understand the innuendo! (He's not attractive, anyway.)
