55 Flash Fiction Friday #62: Too Much

"He called you what??"

"Morphine. Said it was his nickname for me."

"Well I can understand that to a degree. I can understand the intoxication for sure. And the addiction."

"'Too much can kill', he said"

He searched the mental quote archives and selected a suitable line.

"Every man dies. Not every man truly lives."*

*In case you're wondering, the line is from Braveheart

  1. Romantic! A little dark, maybe, but romantic.

  2. I remember the Stones, but Marianne Faithful wrote it! You should read the book by her. It was great. Your 55 is great too :)

  3. I suppose her response in this story might be "not soon enough" to the first part of that quote. And may those who do live do so well and in the company of love.

  10. I liked the double angle of 'romance' here, at first it seems he's alluding to its addictive qualities, then shatters it by "too much can kill."
