My World Tuesday #48: "They Were Out Watching A Piper Cub"
When I found myself stuck in an 8-mile-long traffic jam on I-40 Business on Saturday I figured most of the traffic was headed to the Wake Forest University football game due to kick off that afternoon. I certainly didn't expect that all of those people arond me were going to the air show at Smith Reynolds Airport. I was, apparently, mistaken. This was the view in every direction if you were anywhere near the flight line. And the view in most directions was the same even if you weren't in close proximity to the flight line. Add in several thousand more who opted to sit outside the fence and save the $15 admission and it becomes apparent that the Winston Salem Air Show is not one of aviation's better kept secrets. This year's show featured -- among other things -- performances by Rob Holland, the top-ranked stunt pilot in the world in 2004 and 2008 and a 0.995-Mach flyover by a B1-B Lancer. I got to witness both of these events, but I missed the 300mph jet-powered school bus. Maybe next year.

Damn.. All America gathered together!
But it must have been a special event to visit for sure.
That is amazing so many people were out for that. I bet it was an interesting show.
Good to see we're together on something! Amazing crowd! Hope everyone had a great time. Lovely clouds to fly in!
Have a great week, Mojo!

Wow! Look at all those people looking in the same direction, too! Love the clouds. What a crowd!Looks like fun.
wow that many people came out to watch that show, definitely not a secret around those parts.
Yeah, everyone looking over in the same direction where the airplanes are, right Mojo? Ha! :)
How cool!!
I guess a lot of people down there have a soft spot for flight. Very cool and mellow looking.
must have been fun...
reminds me of scenes from 'woodstock'!
Must be a fantastic Air Show whit so many people watching.
Like I always say, even if you don't get the main event, get something. They are often the better more interesting images, like this. All as one.
Wonderful shot .. all those people, all that color
I'd give my eye teeth to see a B-1B ("Bone"!) flyover. That must be an experience for the ages. Alas, Canadian air shows only merit fighter-class aircraft. I think I need to move!
