This is the NC Department of Public Instruction, the state agency that, among other things, oversees all of the various school boards in the state. The building is referred to (somewhat derisively) as the "Pink Palace" because of the pinkish faux stone used in its skin. the same architect must have gotten a lot of contracts in the city, because this same material and same basic design can be found in a number of buildings -- both publicly and privately owned -- all over town.

Nice - I like the quirky angles on the building and the pink against that super blue sky.

Similar design and materials must be a nice thing--a bit of harmony in the landscape? Of course, if you don't do pink, it's kind of a bummer. Sometimes when I see these horizontal stripes on a building I wonder if the architect would have gone all glass if he could have.

So you're in the pink. Now I know....

That blue sky is a great contrast to the building, great shot!

What an interesting building. It made for a great shot. From the shape of it one would think you were looking at it's rippled reflection in water.

looking back to all your beautiful old ornate buildings, why is modern suddenly so unappealing?

Cool! Interesting choice for a building color. The design is nice. I like the way you composed the shot, showing the strong contrast against that blue sky and including that beautiful tree as foreground. Great!

Btw, is it possible to ex-links w/ you? I have added your site to our Hall of Faves, hubby and I really like your site.

What an unattactive bldg .. this bldg qualifies for drab .. tho the sky is truly upliftingly lovely

Interesting angles. Good sky. Wonder if the interior matches the exterior!
