Ruby Tuesday #8: 'Tis the Season

"Canes Country"
Raleigh, NC - October 2008 (Click to embiggen)

Ruby Tuesday - Are you red-dy? Hosted at

I love this time of year. The oppressive heat of summer is gone, the mornings are crisp, and best of all... a new hockey season is starting with all of the possibilities that brings with it. The off season was just way too long this year, but hope springs eternal... as this banner in downtown Raleigh's Capitol District clearly declares.

I am afraid I still prefer spring to any season. Autumn has its definite highlights as well. Best of all; being alive and still kicking.

First of all,I have had to find informations to know what is the "Canes Country". Hey! There're Europeans overthere. Trying to find, I watched a Hockey player named Brind'Amour!? I can imagine his childhood if he lived in a French speaking state in Canada when he was young
No matter! This is a perfect red banner for R.Tuesday. Red loves flags, banners, signs and so on.
Too late, for me to post. I'll participate next tuesday, not enough time.

@Jim: These are banners that hang in the downtown are and around the arena. I don't think they really fit either the "flag" or "poster" categories, although during the playoffs in 2002 and 2006 when the Hurricanes advanced to the Stanley Cup Final, there was a Hurricanes flag flying from the roof of the old Capitol building about 2 blocks south (and 1 block east) of where this shot was taken.

@Catherine: Rod Brind'Amour was actually born in Ottawa, Ontario which (if memory serves) is predominantly English speaking. That said, Ottawa is the Canadian capital, so There's quite a bit of French spoken in the city itself at least. Brindy left Ottawa at a very young age though, and grew mostly up in Campbell River, BC. So far as I know, he doesn't speak French, despite his name. The NHL is home to a large number of French Canadian players however, and a growing number of European players as well. The majority of those come from either Scandanavia (mainly Sweden and Finland) or Russia and Eastern Europe (the Czech Republic is also well represented).

It's definitely an international game!
