That's My World Tuesday #1: Bicentennial Mall
I know what you're thinking. Did I really need to add another photo meme, and especially on a Tuesday? But when I heard the guys at Sky Watch Friday were starting this one, I couldn't pass it up. After all, where do we take most of our photos anyway? Wherever you live, there's got to be something you want to show off for the rest of the world, right? So here's your chance!I thought for starters I'd take you down Bicentennial Mall in the Capitol District downtown Raleigh, the state capital of North Carolina, and my hometown. You're looking north across Jones Street, and the big building in front of you with the green pyramids on the roof is the State Legislative Building. The tall one behind it and to the right is the Department of Public Instruction which oversees the various school boards in each county. In the foreground on the right, you can just see a bit of the outdoor seating for the cafe at the NC Museum of History. The tall skinny building in the background is actually a couple of block to the north, and I'm not sure what's housed in there. On your left (out of frame) is the NC Museum of Natural Sciences (which I'll show you another time). And a couple of blocks down Jones Street to the left is my office. Directly behind you across Edenton Street is the original State Capitol building which used to be home to the Legislature before the new Legislative Building was completed in 1963.

Lots of history here. Thanks for the lesson and the great shot.
Hah! That is great - and you're also making a great case for this meme!
Thank you for that! And I'll be looking for more!
Cheers, Klaus
Raleigh is beautiful and so is your photo! I can't wait for your pictures f the NC Museum of Natural History, it's one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in Raleigh.
Great place to start! This is going to be fun. :D
I wonder why your world looks so familiar. I thought it would be fun to see what the other participant in my home town picked. Great choice. Carver's Photoblog
Where are the pigeons? When I lived in Raleigh back in the 40's, there were always pigeons at the State Capitol. Thanks for bringing me up to the 21st century.
