Ruby Tuesday #11: I Think I Canna

"Volunteer Canna Lily"
Raleigh, NC - June 2002 (Click to embiggen)

Ruby Tuesday - Are you red-dy? Hosted at

Most of the time if I try to grow something I wind up killing it. There are a few things even I can't kill though, and this turned out to be one of those. This rather impressive (by the time all was said and done) red canna lily volunteered in my yard. I haven't a clue how it got there, because I'd never had canna's before so it's not as if it were a leftover that finally had some room to sprout. It just appeared where I had divided some lariope and grew to nearly my height. The blooms weren't all that ostentatious, but the foliage was amazing! It returned for a couple of encores in subsequent years, then sort of lost energy I guess.

I guess red is invincible. Nice greens behind the red.

Hi, Mojo,
I admire people with green thumbs.
Yours must have some red added as well.
