Monochrome Monday #12: No Place Like...

"Little Gray Shack"
Beaufort, NC - October 2008 (Click to embiggen)

It's no big secret to anybody who knows me that Beaufort, NC is one of my favorite places in the world. I've gone on at length about the ambiance of Front Street, but once you get a block or two off the waterfront you begin to discover hidden gems like this little cabin sitting between to of the historic district's larger houses. I didn't stop and knock, but it appears that someone still lives here.
Update: If you've read the comments on this post, you may have noticed that another area blogger is even more familiar with this place and its history than I am. I just thought it made an interesting photograph. Turns out it has a pretty interesting history as well. If you'd like to find out more about it, check out Kenju's article on it from last October (just a couple of weeks before I took this shot) at Imagine.

Somewhere to relax.

Maybe it's someone's place to be alone and write...or read.

You could set on the porch, sip from that jug, rock on the chair and then well the barrel would be useful for a lot of things ..

The Old Burying Ground in Beaufort is another great place for unusual photographs. This is a neat picture that reminds me there are parts of Beaufort I haven't seen...or don't remember seeing. Maybe it's time to go back. Good job, Mojo.

Cool. Reminds of the Beverly Hillbillies home.

It is so evocative of many American films for me and literature. A favourite place can never tire of being photographed.

I've been in it! It is a "dependency kitchen", moved there from GA by the people who used to own the Mace House - my friend Grady Wheeler (now deceased). Grady used it to store his floral supplies. He was a former florist to the Governor's Mansion and the History Museum. Can you believe it Mojo??? Corner of Ann St. and Pollock, right?

Hi Jazz. Your picture inspired me to finally post to M.M. Of course it helps that I have the next two weeks off and I don't have to think of anything except having fun and enjoying life. Nice little building. I would love to know some of its secret stories.

Okay, maybe not exactly right now when it's -1 outside, but when it's warmer, I would love to be hanging out in that hammock with a great book! :)

Peaceful place which have "cachet".
What seems amazing is that you found someone who knew your secret place too.

Is it bad that the first thing that popped into my mind was the movie "The Jerk?"

Just discovered a really cool sounding book and thought you might like it - The Oxford Project. And if you've already checked it out - I would love to know what you thought about it.

Oh, and thanks for visiting and sharing your kilt story ;0)
