This is one of those strange illusions created by distance and angle. The fireworks were actually well away from the trees, and quite a bit higher than they appear. But the "launch site" was at a much lower elevation than my vantage point so the geometry just worked out so that it appeared the fireworks were going off in the middle of the woods. In fact, the treeline was probably less than 200 yards from me and the fairgrounds were at least half a mile away. Couple that with a 4 second exposure that amplified the light from the rockets and it appears that the forest is on fire!

I am so impressed .. are those fireworks trees? And more importantly, do they have a permit?
