Monochrome Monday #17: I Column Like I See 'em

"Grape Arbor?"
Raleigh, NC - October 2008 (Click to embiggen)

Downtown Raleigh seems like a strange place to put a grape arbor, and to be completely honest I'm botanically challenged enough that I couldn't say for sure that grapes are what's growing here. But the leaves look like grape leaves, and the vines are certainly prolific enough.

Whatever's growing there, I pass it every morning on the way from my parking space to my office. And I doubt that it's tended by a vintner in any case. Mainly it just provides shade for the benches that are tucked underneath.

Stumble This!

Cool - looks like a good place to keep out of the sun. Your wondering makes me wonder too - don't ever recall seeing or reading about grape arbors being used as walkways. Probably have been though.

Whatever, I am sure it encourages a cool, tranquil mood. Just the thing before work.

pergola is more likely, almost the same as an arbor, more like a covered walkway with seating. Ususally covered with wisteria. Beautifully inviting either way.

I'll have to check it out next time I'm downtown. Whatever it is, it's a great shot.

These leaves are at the good place whatever plants they come from.
A good place to let one's mind wander. About the name of that plant or anything else.

You will have to keep checking to see if any grapes grow.

What pretty columns! We have grapevines growing all over the house! I love to reap the fruity benefits!

I like the way nature reclaims the land back, usually grapevines twisting and weaving around structures. Eerie image,

lovely shot too! grape arbors remind me of my childhood. we had one in namibia, in a hot acrid desert-like environment of all places...

I'm thinking, "Feed me, Seymour..." Better watch it around that thing at feeding time!

I was caught giggling at the title, knowing what was to come but laughing at your cleverness. :) Good way to start Monday. :)

Looks like a place where a lot of grapes live!

Mojo, sorry for the delay in getting back. There is so little of the vine showing that I am not certain of it, but my best guess is Carolina jasmine, not grape. Grape leaves are usually much larger than those I can see in your photo.
