Ruby Tuesday #21: Bienvenido!
In the middle of downtown Raleigh you'll find City Market, a collection of upscale restaurants and shops that was supposed to be a key in the revitalization of downtown. When the plaza was first established, there was virtually nothing in the way of residential properties in the downtown core and predictably the businesses there skated very close to the edge for several years. Raleigh is unique in that it's one of the very few cities designed for the purpose of being a state capital. And as a consequence, most of the downtown sector is inhabited by the offices of state government. That didn't leave a lot of room for residential and commercial development and as the city grew (which has done at a prodigious rate since about 1960) the city -- and its residents -- spread further and further from the city center. During the late 70's the city planners began efforts to breathe life back into a downtown region that had basically become an office park, devoid of life after quitting time. After a few false starts and a couple of expensive gaffes (say it with me: "Fayetteville Street Mall") the project finally seems to be headed in the intended direction. One of the beneficiaries of this reurbanization effort is El Rodeo, reportedly one of the better Mexican restaurants in town. I can't confirm or deny since I've never been there, but I did catch this photo of it one chilly evening in December of 2008.

You do night shots really well. I like how OPEN stands out, and the rest is commentary.
Hi, Mojo,
I like the welcoming open sign, and am curious to take a look inside.
From Felisol
Fascinating capture. Well-done!
I'd love to try a new Mexican restaurant, Mojo! Great night shot! Happy Ruby Tuesday! :)
Nice photo. I find night shots to be really difficult. You've done a great job.
The place looks welcoming.
Happy Ruby Tuesday ~
Hi Mojo,
You caught the open sign perfectly but I love more the lights inside and outside.
I have to say with everyone else you do post a lot of really good night shots - next tutorial perhaps. :)
I feel invited to enter that Mexican restaurant for a meal of the ultimate enchilada and a side of Dos Equis Lager. I would say the dark interior doesn't stand out as much as that bright neon sign set against the darkness. But the red 'OPEN' says to stop in and relax!
Very nice shot. I like how the xmas lights just dot the picture.
That red neon sign stating 'Open' is looking inviting! :)
I love Mexican food. It says open and I wish I could walk in and order enchiladas and a margarita. :-)
I wish Spokane had a trendy little inner city, but, alas they do not. It is kind of eat drink and be merry because tomorrow you may be in Spokane. I've only been through Raleigh a couple of times, but never to stop and sight see. What a shame, hu?
Great photo!
great photo and positive story that went with it!
You got the lighting perfectly.
I love Mexican food, but sadly there is not a decent Mexican restaurant to be found anywhere in Israel. Lots of bad tortilla roll places, but nothing authentic and nothing at all that's good.
Inviting photo and narrative. I love Mexican food and would certainly try this place out should I happen upon it ...
Mine's at Small Reflections today.
Hugs and blessings,
hee , hee.
So we both have a Mexican theme going this week :0)
Happy Ruby to you...
Nice nighttime shot, Mojo. There are several El Rodeo restaurants around Raleigh. They probably have some of the most authentic Mexican cuisine I've ever eaten.
You probably need another photo meme like you need another hole in the head, but at the suggestion of a couple of others, I've issued an invitation to others to participate in Sunday Scenery posts. There's information over on my blog.
you know me and open signs lol but even more lovely are the lights inside
and really interesting stuff about Raliegh - thanks :)
let us know if it's at par to your gastronomic taste!:) dramatic shot:)
my RT N3
Nice shot. One of the things I miss about living in NYC is access to a wide variety of foods.
Great photo!
Good job! My night shots never turn out.
