That's My World Tuesday #17: Woody's City Market
City Market was one of the earliest "gentrification" projects in the downtown "warehouse district". Many years ago, the city council began efforts to bring business and residents back to the downtown core. I remember as a child shopping in the downtown area, but even then there was almost no residential property. Raleigh is one of only a very few cities designed to be a state capitol, and as such most of the downtown district was designed to house the wheels of government -- not people. It's taken a number of years and more (private and public) money that I like to consider, but there are now parts of downtown that don't look like the sidewalks rolled up at quitting time. City Market is one of those areas, and while it doesn't encompass more than a couple of square blocks, it has maintained its popularity as a feature of the city's night life. Woody's is one of the more popular destinations, as evidenced by the fact that it has outlasted at least three establishments I can remember that were directly across Wolfe Street from it.

Good shot of the city market at night. I've taken a lot of daytime shots there but not night ones. Your idea of collaborating on my world some time is one I've thought more about but alas I always think of it once we've already posted on a good one for collaboration.
Love the downtown market, always important to get many people into the downtown core as possible. Thanks for sharing.
Have a great week.

I am always curious as to what a city's downtown look like when visiting a new place.
Have a great week.
Mojo, you simply have to come to Zinder and visit the local marketplace. I would LOVE to see what you'd make of it!
In the mean time, I think I'll go shopping in your district. You don't suppose they have any blond mesh, do they?
Warm greetings from West Africa,
Esther
It looks very inviting, Mojo. I can see why it has lasted. ;-)
A friendly pub always seems to last! Kind of like the Cheers in Boston.
What a great shot! Looks like such a great place! wish I could pop in for a visit! Thanks for sharing! Have a great week!

I love the City Market - used to go down there every weekend to the old Yancey's (where Woody's is now). When we our office was on Hargett Street we ate lunch at Vic's and Angelo's quite often. I was at Angelo's for lunch today as a matter of fact, and bought a "North Carolina Education Lottery ticket." Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Mojo: What a neat look at the downtown at night.
I like the red glow off the outdoor table. The place looks inviting. I'd like to check it out.
places always look so magical in the evening - I love the shot - take care, Judith
They have tried time and again to get people into St. Louis city. And every time it turns into a slum. With crime. Some areas to the south prosper but not many.
Sounds like a cool place
You seem to be traveling a lot at night! Not many people around and the table looks inviting! :)
We have similar regeneration going on in Bricktown the old warehouse area of OKC, nice shot.
Lovely night shot. Sounds like an interesting place.
bright lights that lure...
