Thematic Photographic 36: "Up" v.1.0 - Hello Up There!
What else would follow last week's Thematic Photographic theme of "Down" besides "Up"?. I mean seriously, you were expecting maybe pastrami? (Good sandwich, pretty limited theme though.)And just for the record, I scheduled my Sepia Scenes post for today before the first of the year, so I seriously was not trying to jump the gun. But as a couple of people pointed out, it did fit the theme...This is not the shot I'd originally intended to open this week's Thematic with, but I suddenly realized that I'd been on a real run of monochrome lately and really needed to get some color in things at least for a little while. This guy (girl?) must have been freezing up on that branch this day. Raleigh had just gotten it's quadrennial snow and while it wasn't quite as cold as it had been the day before, it was still pretty ahem "bracing" (which I realize will garner no sympathy whatsoever from my neighbors to the north). I guess they must be pretty well insulated under all those feathers, huh?

First I was thinking, that's one fat little bird...then I realized that's probably one darn cold bird with feathers fluffed to keep from freezing and then I read your
post. :)
I have NO idea how any of the animals can stand it outside. I am a silly wimpy human to them I guess. ;)
It's 36, it rained and melted all the snow, and it feels like a heatwave right now! Whoo hoo!
--snow
Makes me feel blue--blue the happy way of spring behind that strange snowfall.
What an intrepid bird. Of course, I am under the feathers of a couple hundred of his cousins, so I guess I'm digging how feathers work.
Yup, that one definitely works for Up :). Very nice catch. And you'll get plenty of sympathy from me - I'd be freezing right along with you and that bird!
you have my sympathy, all the way from the land of sunshine... could you imagine all those little guys flying around with mittens and caps?!?!?!
Oh, that's real pretty. I have a thing for the birdies. I almost posted one of four birds in the large maple in my front yard but it wasn't that good - glad I didn't, because yours is very, very good!
My entry includes a similarly blue sky.
Aw .. I love UP it has so many options
This ought to be a poster. I know how challenging it can be to compose on a fast-moving subject in the middle of a mass of branches. Yet you made it look like the little featherball had posed for you for hours. Very nicely done!
great minds. (mine was for the birds, too!)
Is it a warbler?
perfect shot! such clarity of the warbler. She's beautiful.
I love it! How perfect for the theme!
No mittens, no hats, no coats....there it is out in the cold. Poor thing. Great shot!
Happy Valentine's Day.
