Blue Monday #25: Where To Go

"Raleigh Tells You Where To Go"

In case you missed it: Check out my entry in Nicole B's Scavenger Hunt!

The Capital District of downtown Raleigh has a number of attractions that the natives routinely ignore, and that's really a shame. City Market gets a fair amount of traffic because it's one of the trendier places to go for an evening out. But the museums seem to be mainly populated with visitors and field trips rather than locals. Could be because the locals know that even though the directions are clear, there's very little in the way of parking anywhere near any of these places.Violence Unsilenced

Here in Atlanta it's fairly similar. I know more people from outside the metro area than natives who've visited the Coca-Cola museum (old or new), the CNN tower, and the MLK historical site. *shrug*

Love that blue sign--thanks for the unusual post!

Shame about the parking!
Well, at least you got signs.
A rare find here in the rural areas of Hungary.
They have "attractions", they even announce them in Flyers in the Tourist office, but you seldom find them....

Parking problems prevent many from enjoying museums. Thanks for sharing. Happy Blue Monday.

sight-seeing in one's own home town. just not done by enough people often enough.

The museums in Hartford are like that, too. Lovely, beautiful places where they never have to vacuum because nobody ever goes there.

Sometimes we need out of town visitors to go see local attractions ourselves.

Happy Blue Monday!

Too bad about the parking but it seems to be the norm that more tourists visit these places than the locals. Most New Yorkers have never been to the top of the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty.

And that is exactly why city officials should do something to correct the problem! St. Augustine has the same problem, but it doesn't stop the tourists or the locals. They all flock to downtown because downtown IS St. Augustine. That's where the history is. Other towns, though, have a more difficult go of it, particularly larger cities.

Sheila

My DH and I travel alot & sadly we have learned to avoid the tourist attractions because of the unavailable parking spaces. We usually stick to were the locals go.

Hopefully with the economy the way it is ...more people will take time to visit what is "right in front of them"! Happy Blue Monday ~ Susan

Yup. Too many lonely museums out there.
