Ruby Tuesday #32: Comforting Sight

Ruby Tuesday - Are you red-dy? Hosted at

I hope nobody ever has to test the working order of this device, but I'm glad to know its there. This call box sits in the middle of the parking lot at the Department of Administration building across the street from my office. It's hot wired to the State Capitol Police and features a surveillance camera above the call box. I've never had occasion to use it myself, but I imagine that in the short days and early darkness of winter, this is a comforting sight to many as they make their way to the parking deck across the street.Violence UnSilenced

Hey Mojo...I keep thinking I will participate in the Sky Friday but haven't started yet, maybe soon! You are way ahead of me, I haven't figured out Tuesday's post yet! On a similar note, I have always been really tempted to pull one of those levers in the halls that says 'pull' but I haven't - yet!

What a weird world we have created.
We were in our capital, Oslo, last week.
Total anarchy.
I sure would have been happy to see one of those boxes.
The police here are on strike and protest marches, so there probably wouldn't have been anyone to answer the call anyway.

I do hope they get a real pay raise soon. They sure do deserve it and we deserve some safety.

That red screams. As it should, I suppose.

It is a shame to even need a box like this. That said, red denotes Emergency more than any other color. So red it is...

Yup...and if it's a fire, my husband will be there if you live in this town. What would we do without first responders, especially volunteers...

I love to see photos of those "red things" we see everyday without really noticing, good job!

I don't ever wish you'll ever have the chance of utilizing that box!

i wish we have one of those here in Manila. we rely mostly on our home and cell phones when there's an emergency.

Yes, it must be a comforting sight indeed.
And I love the shot you took of it.
So bright :D!

This has to be the most important red I can think of...it's a striking red, you surely couldn't miss it. Maybe in a blizzard. :)

I guess if someone tried to pull a prank with it, there would be video of the perp. Or else, they are just life-streaming for YouTube ;)

I think I would see it as a talisman, the having preventing the needing, or so I'd like to hope anyway...

Very strong composition, and well suited to the subject.
