Gave me shivers down to the base of my spine. I've always viewed the flag with reverence and awe. Canadians just don't seem to have the same sense of respect for the flag that Americans do.
I think I lose a little bit of my soul every time I see the flag folded up like this and presented to the widow or other surviving family. It's a brutal moment that brings the magnitude of loss and service to country home.
Your picture captures that sense, that spirit, magnificently.
There's an 11x14 print of this heading to my mom for Mothers Day. It'll be a companion print to the 8-frame collage she has of some of the various military and naval personnel in the immediate family history books. There's nowhere to display the actual flags themselves, so I thought this would do the job nicely as an alternative.
