Monochrome Monday #37: The Reedist
Tim Smith is one of those musicians that can breathe life into any instrument you can blow air into. Or across. Besides being an extraordinary saxophonist, Tim's one of the few local players I've seen introduce flute into jazz sessions. Funky, huh? Like most of the jazz players around here, Tim's got his fingers in several bands -- sometimes playing multiple places with multiple bands in the same day. But they're all happy to have him around. In this shot he's playing a show at the Meredith College Amphitheater with the Raleigh Jazz Orchestra.

Nce week from Anne in Norway.
C'mon babe
Why don't we paint the town?
And all that jazz......
Just like a musical...Love it.
Perfect...:-)))
Love jazz, and love the portrait. Good go.
The photo is beautiful. Audible.
Beautiful portrait, very well balanced.
Jazz flute is HARD. I took a few lessons a while back when I was trying to get back to playing, but my background was too rigidly grounded in classical and formal sheet music. I didn't have the talent, the chops or the ear for all that improv!
A talented musician I'm sure he is.
Given my deflated lungs and I'll put shame to any instruments that require me to blow into it :P
a classical portrait!
