Raleigh's oldest private non-profit cemetery -- and its most historic -- is Oakwood Cemetery in the eastern quarter of town. Stretching for 102 acres, the graveyard contains a Confederate cemetery on the original 2 1/2 acres given to the city by Henry Mordecai in 1867. Mordecai deed the land to the city specifically for that purpose and an estimated 1500 Confederate dead are interred there.

Old burial grounds and sepia seem a perfect match. The old seems livelier, the monochrome allowing us to better investigate the old stones. Nice!
