"Jordan Lake Sunset"

Jordan Lake is one of the two major reservoir projects in the Raleigh/Durham area completed by the US Army Corps of Engineers in the early 1980's. But while the two lakes were initially flooded within a year of each other, the projects' timelines could not have been more different. the Jordan Lake project first wen ton the drawing board in 1963 in response to a tropical storm that caused extensive flooding and damage along the Haw River in 1945. The project wasn't actually started however until 10 years later, and it wasn't completed until another 10 years after that. By contrast, construction of the Falls Lake Dam began in 1978 and completed in 1981. Jordan Lake's 14,000 acres of water serve as a State Park, and as the chief water supply for much of Durham and Chatham Counties. This view was taken a week ago from a bridge on Highway 751 in Chatham County. My Summer Stock Sunday for this week came from the same location, but shows the view in the opposite direction.

Looks like a beautiful and useful reservoir. Funny how the construction of the 2 days followed such different timelines. Politics, probably.

I would have loved to walk my dog - and camera - at this beautiful place! It almost looks like one of the small lakes I sometimes visit nearby Oslo!

Nice vantage with the glistening water surface. Sometimes a project like this and the cause of its long delay to finish could be due to the enormity of the work. Sometimes it's Politics that slows it down. If not, too much debate ...and hush hush and opposition. :)
