Thematic Photographic 57: "Distant" v.3.0

"Smoke of a Distant Fire(work)"
Raleigh, NC - December 2008 (Click to embiggen)

By now, I think everybody in Blogaritaville knows my fondness for shooting fireworks. These were actually an experiment in trying to balance a slow enough shutter to expose the buildings with a fast enough shutter to capture the fireworks. I had varying degrees of success, but I got a few shots that were passable. Lucky for me, the crew that stages First Night Raleigh has a "fake" midnight at around 7:00 pm for the really young kids so that their parents can get them home and into bed at a reasonable hour (and not have to deal with cranky youngsters all evening on New Year's Eve). If I were a betting man, I'd say there was a mom or two on the planning committee. 'Cause Dad? Never gonna think of that one.

(Or mothers of course.)

I haven't figure anything to post for Distant yet. :/

I hope you have a great day!

A fake midnight at 7pm??? Utterly brilliant!

We've done things like celebrate New Year's Eve in Bangkok, but this is loads better.

Fake midnights work for this senior- citizen-to-be. Great idea. And if faking it created the opportunity for you to create this gem, I hope the mommy's on on the job again next year.
