One Single Impression: Oceans

Oceans? I love oceans! I should be able to manage this one, yeah? You decide.

Oceans
A heartbeat
A pulse
And in my mind
A woman's voice
In a strange language,
Admonishing
"Lahron se darr kar nauka paar nahin hoti"1
I understand
"Fearing waves is not the way to cross to the other side."
I understand.

The ocean, tireless, ageless, guileless
Leaves a gift at my feet
Its meaning,
Its purpose understood only
By the restless waves
That cut it, shaped it, polished it
Give it the significance you will
The old girl says
And continues her work
Polishing the next trinket.

1Excerpt from the Hindi poem Himmat Karne Walon Ki Haar Nahin Hoti by Surykant Tripathi 'Nirala'

You more than managed that one. That's brilliant. That gift in the sand is quite the beautiful choice of punctuation for that statements. Seems to me this gift has made the crossing and come back again. The heart shape is a wonderful visual metaphor of those words--or were they heartbeats?

Mojo, this is wonderful. And true I'm sure. You can swim the ocean if your coach can be trusted and you will listen.

I know you were talking about more than swimming and oceans literally. But in college I learned to swim. We could not pass if we could not swim around the pool a number, I have forgotten how many, of laps AND jump from the high dive.
My teacher coaxed me on the board, now even at my age I can jump from that high board.

that is really beautiful... we visited a river in southern texas surrounded by white rocks i spent a couple of hours searching for heart shaped rocks...kept them in a jar for a few years and just a few years ago threw them in my flower beds... thank you for the reminder of that beautiful day...

Incidentally, I shot the stone you see in the photo exactly how I found it. Right down to the heart shaped depression it left in the sand when the waves receded.
