Thematic Photographic 80: "Abstract" v.5.0 Abstract Fail
Here I was actually trying to get a specific effect, and I got one. Just not the one I was after. I hadn't (and still haven't) played much with stroboscopic flash, but I decided to try it at the Carolina Rollergirls bout back in June. The idea is you set your flash to fire at a specific frequency at a specific power level for the duration of the exposure. The end result is supposed to have the effect of a multiple exposure shot on film. But the technique doesn't work so well when your flash isn't the primary light source. If ambient light is brighter -- or there's simply more of it, you get... well, this. Which is sorta neat but really looks more like I was using second curtain sync (where the flash fires just before the shutter closes rather than just as opens). Lesson learned.

And you said * my * shot made you dizzy? This one has my head positively spinning.
I really like this photo, Mojo! What do you mean Abstract Fail?
The unintended magic moment is often the one we carry with us forever.
This has a dream-like quality that makes me want to hang out in the stands more. Not necessarily for what takes place in front of me, but for the fun I would have hanging out with you.
