Wordless Wednesday #7: Headed for a Fall
This series demonstrates what leaving the water running can do over about a gazillion years. I took the third shot looking more or less straight down the gorge, which freaked my then-girlfriend out to an almost comical level.

That is truly awesome! And bonus points for freaking out your friend, lol! Thanks for sharing.
I hope you can join me for New Pet Peeve Tuesdays!
I'm digging your photos. Great shots!
Happy WW!
I would have freaked out if I was her too!! Looks like the area you were standing if pretty dangerous for those shots!!
But they're beautiful :)
those are fantastic! Love all that texture.
and enlighten me: what's a HNT post?
also, I wasn't bummed, I was mellow in the hammock. That's a mellow face. A fine line between mellow and bummed I guess.
Awesome shots! It's all good unless you're too close to an edge. LOL!
OK, OK...I'll double-check the taps! This is some place!
Awesome shots.
Looks gorgeous - but also dangerous
Great WW entry
That's truly a nice place for a hot summer. Happy WW! :)
I have to agree! Your photos are stunning:)
Mine is HERE;http://yennygirl.com/?p=2169
You mean that happened because someone left the water running a very long time ago?? :-D
Happy WW.

Looks like a quite beautiful place to visit. I like that first shot with the rocks that are all ridged and layered. Nice WW.
Really amazing photos of a place that almost certainly must be a great place to visit!
Oh those are great shots! I wish I could go there, it looks breathtaking!
Fantastic photos!
Those are great. I've been up and down the Blue Ridge Parkway many times but I don't believe I've ever headed over to Linville Gorge. I may have to remedy that before it gets cold.
Happy WW! Mine's up as well over here.
@Richard: This particular spot requires a little bit of a hike, but it's worth it. And as I recall it was very cold that day.
The "layering" in the rocks was the product of who knows how many years of running water and sand sawing through the mountain. Which takes a while since the Blue Ridge are basically solid granite covered by a layer of soil.
The third shot wasn't quite as dangerous as it looks like it was, there's a stone wall about waist high at the edge of the gorge. But I was leaned over it pretty far and my then-girlfriend was the nervous type anyway. (Yeah, I did it on purpose just to get a reaction... guilty. And yeah, she probably knew it... she's a smart girl.)
The proximity of both ocean and mountains is probably the reason I'm willing to tolerate the summer climate here (highs are projected to hit triple digits again today). This scene is roughly 4 hours from my front door in one direction, and the beach scenes like this one or this one are even closer than that (less than 3 hours).
(Now if we could just do something about this humidity...)
Great shots! Beautiful!
wow! Now that's steep!
That's wow also its too nice...Happy WW!
Mine is here

I'd have been freaked out too, but it's a great shot. Looks like an amazing place.
Linville Falls is looking much better these days......
Happy Wordless Wednesday!
Here's my post:
In Nature
Those are gorgeous shots. I'm glad you didn't fall.
That's beautiful. Amazing how water can cut like a knife, albeit a very dull one.
Thanks for commenting on my site. Happy WW! :)
Looks like a beautiful and peaceful place to visit... I love waterfalls!
Thanks for stopping by!
Very nice shots. Isn't nature amazing?
Thanks for visiting me.
These are beautiful pictures. I love the fact that it is untouched by builders and construction.
Good pictures, I like them. I have some similar pictures, none posted yet, though...
Fantastically gorgeous! And I'm glad she's your ex. She should enjoy what you do, ya know what I'm say'n?
Thx for your visit. Sorry mine's late.
Happy day *huggies*
(rhonda)
@Rhonda: Her intentions were the purest I can promise you. She was just a nervous type. We're still friends all these years later.
(And don't tell anybody, but I got a bit of a perverse thrill out of pushing her "panic button" now and then. Sshhh...)
OK, that's on my list of places to visit. I bet I can get a similar girlfriend reaction without going anywhere NEAR the edge.
Is the last one using a fisheye lens?
@db: Nope. If memory serves, I was using a pretty generic 35-80mm zoom, though it's possible I was using the 75-300mm instead. It's just the combination of angle and the shape of the feature that makes it look like a fisheye.
It's a little bit of a hike to this overlook as I recall, but well worth it. And there's lots to see along the way too.
I love falls and the power of water! Always awe inspiring!
