Since there's no limit on subjects this week, we can cover a very broad range. These shots go back as far as (almost) 11 years and oddly enough all of the ones in this installment were shot on film. Only one of them was on true B&W film (Tri-X 400), though when I scanned the negative, I told the scanner it was getting a color negative. That created the sepia toning effect you see in the hockey shot. The others were on C-41 film even though one of them (the flyball shot) was technically B&W because it was shot on T-MAX CN (which is color negative film with no dye in the emulsion). The remaining two were derived as B&W from an color negative originals. It's going to be a fun week!

The first shot in the collection has the distinction of being the first I took where I actually captured a goal as it was scored. As goals go, it wasn't especially pretty, it was one of those falling down, shove-the-puck-at-the-net types. But it turned out to be the game-winner. And as you probably guessed, it came off the stick of former Bruin Glen Wesley. Wes (finally) retired this summer and will have his number (2) retired by the team in February. He was the last of the players that made the move from Hartford still on the roster.

My son and I visited the Indiana University - Bloomington campus as part of "College Road Trip 2005" and came upon the campus landmark you see in the second shot.

From the IU Website:
Showalter Fountain is the centerpiece of the Fine Arts Plaza and also serves as an adornment to the entrance of the IU Auditorium. Funded by Grace Montgomery Showalter, the fountain features a two-ton sculpture illustrating "The Birth of Venus." The sculpture was designed by former IU faculty member Robert Laurent.

The third shot also came from "College Road Trip 2005", but it was a side trip to Lake Placid on the way from Rochester to Boston. This is at the US Olympic Training Center. I can't remember for sure, but I believe this building houses the USOC offices. At least for the Winter Games. But make no mistake. Whatever's in that building, Lake Placid is all about the Winter "O's".

And finally, one more from the trip to Bethlehem. This is from down the block -- almost to the bridge over the river. It's hard to convey the scale of this place in a photograph because nothing that could provide a basis for comparison will fit in the frame with it. And the short depth of field doesn't help either. Long lenses tend to compress the distances in the direction of their "roll axis". You can see an example in this photo from looking at the lampposts.

wow! Those photographs are amazing!

I LOVE the sepia tainted one! It gives such an archaic and antique quality to the picture!

Ah, the other side of the bathing beauty. I take it your son did decide not to go to IU but some other institution of higher education?
