Ruby Tuesday #14: Bridge Over Bogue

"Causeway Bridge"
Atlantic Beach, NC - October 2008 (Click to embiggen)

Ruby Tuesday - Are you red-dy? Hosted at

Of all the shots I took in and around Atlantic Beach last October, this one is one of my very favorites. In fact, I had trouble deciding which meme to post it in for a long time. But the red channel marker finally sealed it. This is the Causeway Bridge between Morehead City and Atlantic Beach. You're loking at it from the Atlantic Beach end just before sunset.

that really SHOWS that bridge.
frigging totally unnecessary for that shit to be so high up. my driving in NC stops at the bridges.
Actually, my seeing stops there.

Actually, it kinda is necessary for the bridge to be that high. The channel in Bogue Sound is a shipping lane, so in order to get... ships under the bridge, it was either that or keep the old drawbridge. Which nobody liked because it was totally unnecessary to have a railroad crossing over the water.

The bridge at the other end of this island going into Swansboro is at least this high too. so's the one between Morehead City and Beaufort.

I love the lines of the bridge, what a graceful looking arch.

When we were boating at my folks' place this summer my daughter's "job", which she took VERY seriously, was to yell "Grandpa, buoy!" whenever see saw one - she's have loved your red channel marker.

This is fun, I get to look and not drive it. I rode it once. It's not the most fun I've ever had. But this is nice to see it this way.

That bridge looks quite empty at this time - no hurricanes on the way to fill it up both ways to leave...

The bridge is tall enough to let the fishing boats pass. Like the fisherman on another RT, the faster the fresh Atlantic fish get to a restaurant, the better eatin' for us! Therefore, 'GO BRIDGE!'

This curve is stunning. I've never seen a bridge with that incline.
What surprise me even more is all this piling of pillars!
In fact the bridge 'grabs attention' and this Red sign is here to remind us we're Tuesday.
Great find for you, Mojo.

I am a total fraidy cat when it comes to bridges.

This shot makes me feel slightly queasy.

But nice dollop of red : )
