Monochrome Monday #11: Concordia

"Concordia Lutheran Church"
Bethlehem, PA - November 2005 (Click to embiggen)

Back again in Bethlehem, PA we find the Concordia Lutheran Church. Like almost everything else its age in Bethlehem, it's built of stone. I don't know if it has any particular historic significance, but it certainly is a commanding presence.

I really like the perspective you used for this, Mojo. And black & white was a great choice with this stone church. There is awesome detail in the stone work that is rendered nicely in B&W.

Ideal subject.
I never used a red filter until years later. If I recall aright, `the
camera was a Praktic SLR. Film Tri-X.

Hmm...

Kinda makes me want to be up there waiting for a prince.
Or Romeo.
Or the Hunchback.

You know, whoever comes first.

:D

Seriously, very nice perspective Mojo. :)

who's in the window on the right?

It is a subject that is best served in black and white and the person in the window adds a little spookiness.

As a graduate of Concordia University in Montreal, I'm predisposed to liking this shot.

But even if I had gone to any other school, the imposing composition would have snagged me anyway. I can feel myself being overpowered by the perspective. Great use of position and line.

I wonder whether Lutheran are as austere as their church?
Great shot.I love the way you managed to "enter" the whole steeple inside the picture. Looks so imposing that way.

Very old and very gothic looking to me. Right up my alley. I love what you did here Mojo. It is one of your best shots! The black and white only adds to its mystique.
