Sky Watch Friday #18: Copper Sky

"Sun & Shadow"
Raleigh, NC - November 2008 (Click to embiggen)

Sky Watch Friday
Conventional wisdom says that if you like the light in front of you, turn around and look behind you. Chances are better than even you'll like what you see there even better. And if you remember my Skywatch from last week, you'll see exactly how that bit of wisdom came to be. Strictly speaking, this wasn't behind me, but it was about 90 degrees removed from where I was initially looking (the aforementioned Skywatch #17).
There's a reason it's called conventional wisdom I guess.

You saw a bit of God as we say! :D

Beautiful, isn't it? I could watch the sky and the Ocean, day and night. Nature is divine.

I like those colors. I like just about any color for sky other than a dirty gray. But ochre with bits of gold and pink is lovely.

Very nice capture, the way the winds at various levels has moved the clouds around!

Gotta love it when the better photo op is behind or beside you. Glad you turned and looked!

Smashing cloud formations and that colour is just wonderful. Lucky you turned around and looked elsewhere too. It paid off.

I'm always amazed at how headlights at dusk are pretty useless for helping us see, but essential for others to have them on to see them. It isn't until the full cloak of night that our headlights become good for us.

I'll follow your example next time I attempt to shoot something esp clouds. Lovely snap.

I love how the clouds are holding the light from the sun behind them and showing us it's still there.

Very nice, as always.

I love the colors of that sky. A feast for the eyes with all of the gray we have been having.

Love the light!

As for my lightning shot... you give me too much credit. I just pressed the button at the right moment. God did the rest.

Looking around was definitely worth the effort. I went back to last week to compare. The last was pretty, but this one is spectacular!

Excellent observation and a Turner sky to accompany them. You really grasp the concept of photography and it shine through with your images conventional or otherwise.

I truly LOVE that color! My favorite color is burnt orange/copper & that sky shot is phenomenal!!!

The "tude" comment you left on my Jilly shot on b&w made me smile! Thank you for that - it hasn't been too happy around here lately!

Is the tree is the corner to help 'place' the sky? I am just curious because I find that sometimes the sky without any context is just the sky. The colors are fantastic...Michelle

I love that it is so dark and crisp near the top and fades to a lighter shade lower. Very pretty.

Beautiful shot! But I am so often lost in the setting sun, I forget to look around.

Good thing the lower cloud is able to catch the spill off from the upper cloud .. it reminds me of the way my Monday morning began with the ceiling raining down on me in the bathroom ... not the way you want to shower .. not while sitting on the throne
