The Doors #3: "Sacred Heart"
I pass Sacred Heart Cathedral every morning on the way to work. And every morning until the last two I've thought to myself "I need to get a photo of that door". Even before David started this theme I thought this would make a good photo. So two days ago I decided that since we'd had our second snow (read an inch of slush) of the year, I'd take the camera along to work and document the "aftermath". But the traffic light that catches me every morning at the corner whereat Sacred heart sits for once decided to be green when I arrived. Unable to stop and take a proper shot, I did manage to slow down and fire a one-hander as I crept by (much to the consternation of the fellow behind me I'm sure). And it was a respectable enough effort all things considered, but not really what I was after.Undaunted I brought the camera along next morning and the traffic gods were more favorable. I was stopped by the customary red light and able to get not one but two shots, and with somewhat better light to boot. Which left me in a quandry. I now had two shots that I liked and couldn't decide between them. So I didn't.After all, this theme is called "The Doors" not "The Door".

I always loved Catholic churches. As a 11yr old Hindu girl, I used to go to Sunday Mass with my Catholic friend in India and was fascinated by high ceilings and calm interior although I was not interested about the prayers etc! :D
It looks like a beautiful church. I wonder what it looks like on the inside.
Nice pics.
I choose the close-up! It shows the detail of the stones, the arch, wood, and the snow on the fence posts.
Of course, that is just MHO.
I am so tempted to join this.
I shot a number of doors while touring Rajasthan.
Very beautiful, I would love to see the inside also. Thanks for sharing both photos.
I looove the textures. The deep, rich wood and the stones- some dry, some wet, the metal railing, the soft snow. Dory likey.
I really like the first one with the snow "icing" the building. Beautiful!
I've been through those doors a hundred times, at least, delivering flowers. I have close-ups of them with my wreaths!
P.S. And inside it is really gorgeous, since the renovation about 5-6 years ago. The ceiling was painted by artisans from Italy; gold stars on blue.
I love old doors.
I totally dig the first shot!
