That's My World Tuesday #23: Over the Top?

Sometimes there's just nothing left to say. I spotted this faithful scale reproduction of the Statue of Liberty in someone's yard one fine morning, and simply had to have a photograph of it.

I didn't actually meet the proprietor, but I surmise from the flags flying above the Lady's head that he is a former US Marine. I applaud the pride in one's country that it takes to install such a display. And at the same time, I can't help thinking that it's a bit over the top.

But maybe it's just me. Frankly, I hope that the coming years will make us all this proud to be Americans.Violence Unsilenced

My favorite part of this shot is actually the little deer in the background peeking out from behind the tree - somehow, that lessens the over-the-top-ness of it all for me!

Very well done! It belongs in our world!
Cheers, Klaus

I guess there are worse sculptures that could be in a yard! But you are right, there just isn't much to say about it.

I agree with Louise there are worse out there. I guess the owner just wants to proudly show his/her love of country.

What an interesting find!

I'm sorry but I had to laugh. I actually like yard statuary that makes me laugh. I get a kick out of over the top pink flamingos too.

Interesting sculpture to have in a yard. I'm at a loss to think of what patriotic statue Canadians might put on their lawn. ;-)

Is it unusual over there?
Interesting nevertheless.

Well, Klaus is right, it does belong in "our" world -- maybe not my first choice for my yard, but it's still a great shot! Thanks!

I can only applaud his patriotism. I would love to know the story of how he acquired it and how it came to be in his yard. He must be out in the country perhaps? I can't get so much as a bird bath put in my yard without the permission of the HOA!!! Great photo!

As a garden ornament, I'm with Carver, I had a giggle too...what will they think of next?
Love of one's country is a good thing, hiding behnd one's flag to impose one's will on some weaker nation is in my book criminal.
I prefer to be a citizen of the world rather than a parochial patriot, thus I can love the beauty in all countries and do not feel it to be my duty to hit anyone else on the head because they want to live in their own way.

This person could join the ranks of some Northern over-the-toppers. I love it, too, yet I never saw Lady Liberty as a lawn ornament. Still, fair play to whomever for having some spirit and some personality.

I love when pictures speak for themselves! I actually thought of letting Saturday's Nigerien wedding pictures be a wordless, but then ended up adding context anyway. As did you. But I really enjoyed the wordlessness of the picture above!

What is that green cylinder leaning against Ms Liberty? Quite eye-catching - I'll say that for it!

Am not sure what to say, but am catching up with what one had to say. But the photo did some justice. :)

I have come across the mini Statue of Liberty a lot blogging. You just wouldn't see a Patriotic statue like this in the UK, but strangely this kind of thing would be right at home on my funny little island. Interesting quirky find.

Great find for My World! I've never seen such a thing, and it does leave me speechless. I like the deer in the background.

It's a little over the top but what the heck, it's America, and it made a good subject of conversation. Is that a real deer in the background?

The torch is still closed on the real one ..., or so I hear.
