Blue Monday #35: First Night "R2K"

"If He'd Known The World Was Safe, Would He Still Have Worn This Costume?"
Raleigh, NC - December 1999 (Click to embiggen)

Depending where you live you may or may not be familiar with "First Night". It's a family-friendly New Year's Eve ... carnival for want of a better word that takes place in several US cities. For the last 18 years Raleigh has been one of those cities, and this shot came from NYE 1999. At the time I thought it was important to document the event just in case the world really did end at midnight.Violence UnSilenced

It's possible he was just dying for the opportunity to wear that costume in public.

First Nights can be fun. I used to go to one in Danbury, Connecticut. It was great until they directed everyone to the roof of a parking garage to watch fireworks. Weird idea and a bad one too in way sub-zero weather. That's when I learned to stop following directions all the time.

And the computers kept working away, oblivious to the predictions of doom and gloom. Happy Blue Monday.

You always have such interesting subjects, this is really cool. But one thing.... if the world had ended then who would look at your photos? Oh and another thing would the camera survive the worlds end? and if it did end there would be no internet to post it to no.... I could do this all day long!
