Sepia Scenes #34: St. Agnes Hospital Restoration
I have to confess that I'm mostly ignorant of the history behind this hospital on the campus of St. Augustine's College. I'd never heard of St. Agnes Hospital until the day I took this photo, and it was only because of the sign in front that I knew what it was then. St. Aug is one of the two oldest predominantly black colleges in town (Shaw University being the other) and if I had to guess, I'd guess that St. Agnes dates back to the days of segregated health care (yes children, there was once such a thing).

they are restoring it, arent' they? it may be delapidated but even i can see the potential here...
I wonder what it will be when it's done? Perfect post for Sepia Scenes!
Magnificent in its sepia tones!
Sepia perfection
This building has great bones. I hope they restore it someday.
This is sepia-perfection Mojo!
But with the knowledge of what it used to be in this building I can still here screams when I see this picture...
And so you know..
I have voted for you! OF COURSE! ;)
You've heard of hospitals been like a magnet for the supernatural stuffs right :P
Bless those souls, I hope they'll like their newly revamp home..
are they restoring it? i can only imagine what it looks like in its heyday.
The building had a stout style with the stone facade. Even if the purpose of the original building wasn't pure, the look is of edifices was the architecture of the day. The sepia gives is an under construction mode...
skeltons of the past
amazing caption
Some reminders of the past are not happy, are they? But just because the memories are sad doesn't mean we ought to forget.
Perfect subject for sepia. Smiles Barbara
I really like the symmetry and heft this building has and the way you captured both.
The photo gives the building a real feel of quiet strength, or perhaps quiet desperation. We've come a long way since those days, but the road yet to travel is still long.
even if ive never been there i can imagine how history-full it is...nicely captured!
Are they going to refurbish it? It looks fascinating, especially with its historical significance. great idea for Sepia Scenes, Mojo.
Mojo, here's a link to some information about St. Agnes: http://www.visitraleigh.com/visitors/things_to_do/listing.details.php?partner=14926&name=Saint%20Agnes%20Hospital
Another great picture. I need to explore some of the older college campuses in town because there is some great architecture on them.
