I have to confess that I'm mostly ignorant of the history behind this hospital on the campus of St. Augustine's College. I'd never heard of St. Agnes Hospital until the day I took this photo, and it was only because of the sign in front that I knew what it was then. St. Aug is one of the two oldest predominantly black colleges in town (Shaw University being the other) and if I had to guess, I'd guess that St. Agnes dates back to the days of segregated health care (yes children, there was once such a thing).

are they restoring it? i can only imagine what it looks like in its heyday.
The building had a stout style with the stone facade. Even if the purpose of the original building wasn't pure, the look is of edifices was the architecture of the day. The sepia gives is an under construction mode...

I really like the symmetry and heft this building has and the way you captured both.
The photo gives the building a real feel of quiet strength, or perhaps quiet desperation. We've come a long way since those days, but the road yet to travel is still long.
even if ive never been there i can imagine how history-full it is...nicely captured!

Another great picture. I need to explore some of the older college campuses in town because there is some great architecture on them.
