Sky Watch Friday #21: Sun & Tide
The "hazard" of staying in a beachfront hotel is that you wind up with a lot of shots that are very similar in composition, but you just can't help taking them.
On this evening I shot the sun going down from this side of the pier until the disk was obscured by the structure. Then I took off at a dead run (something I almost never do -- ask anyone who knows me!) to the other side to document the last dying gasp of daylight as the sun slipped below the horizon. From where it is in this photo it took roughly 10 minutes for it to disappear completely.
The results were well worth the mad dash down the beach, but I did find myself with a lot of very similar photos and couldn't decide which ones to keep. So I decided I'd keep them all, and throw one out whenever a bit of warmth was called for.

Beautiful sunset...
My SWF entry this week : in HERE. I hope you have time to visit. Thanks
Wonderful sunset over the pier. Great shot!
Nice sunset, I know I am ready for another beach trip.
Very beatuful, I love sunset and the color!
Awesome shot, Mojo!! I need a vacation at that hotel!
Love the way you have captured the sun itself. Hope you did not burn your eyeballs out.
How'd you get to be first, Mojo?
Your photo is so beautiful! Nothing like a sunset over the water!
Gorgeous capture! I'm with Arija, hope you didn't burn your eyeballs!! Thanks for sharing! Happy SWF!
So, you ran after the last sunray for us Mojo? It's worth the race.
The pier enhances all the scene.
Since you get other shots, you won't have to run again, until next time.
That is so very bright! Beautiful shot.
What a beautiful shot! At first glance, that looked just like my "hometown" in Sweden, which has a pier and a beach that looks like it. Thanks for the reminder!
Beautiful sunset! Love how the pier changes from contrast in orange/yellow to blue and green!
Fan-friggin-tastic!!! Love it!
Nice photograph for SkyWatch Friday. I am always interested in what others are doing. Have a nice weekend.

you managed to make me think of warmer days, walking on the coast of Florida!
Reply to you Mojo;
I'm sorry to say I have no idea what ISO ore anything I used to take those pics! I was so fascinated I didn't think of it! And no - it is not the same as northern light or aurora. It has something to do with ice in the upper atmosphere.....I linked to a little info. - didn't you read that? :) Here is the link:

I think we've all been there; taking what seemed like infinite clicks of the same image :)
This one's very lovely. Enjoy the weekend.
The top most ever shot is a sunset, and yours is fantastic.
Lovely pictures, and the setting sun softens the structures.
Thank you.
Awesome sunset.
Beaches and sunset... One of nature's most fascinating views. I love the way you describe it. Best wishes :)
I loved the story behind this picture and I can certainly confirm that it was worth the effort. A lovely warm sky and the sun as a gorgeous yellow disc hanging just above the pier. Very eye pleasing composition.
Great composed image!
Very beautiful shot, nice color!
Very nice photo.
Beautiful sunset.
That sort of sums up photographing Ramsey. Are you sure that's not my pier? Wonderful sunset.
I wouldn't be able to decide which picture to throw out either. I would have kept them all also. Beautiful sunset. =)
Always difficult to edit your own work but if all your photos are like this, I'm glad you've kept them all. Wonderful!
All sunset shots on the beach are well worth keeping. This is great.
This photo is just magnificent! wow! the color of the sky is just amazing. just beautiful!
Tess (life is beautiful)
Great idea keeping sunsets in the hole for a sunny day! These are magnificent. I know what you mean about ending up with a bunch of the same shot, but I promise, each is different, and the sky will never be exactly like that again! Awesome!
Absolutely beautimus!!! You probably even burned a calorie or two on your mad dash for the pic!
This is a wonderful shot, yeah it's true that we sometimes get the same shots, but no matter what, they're always beautiful to watch.
I am glad you made the dash. That is wonderful. It's nice to stop and stare from here, too.
Outstanding. That is some long pier.
Wonderful sunset!
Thanks for sharing....
HSWF:)
Hullo, Mojo! I know what you mean about not being able to help yourself as you take the same shots over and over and over..... but they are still beautiful!
Happy Friday!

It's beautiful! I'm a big fan of sunsets!
Great shot! What is interesting about the NC beaches in that area is you can look left in the morning and see the sunrise and then look right tosee a sunset like yours.
nice shot:-)

One of the best sun shots are over at the beach. No matter how much we look at them, they're never boring and always full of hopefulness :)
Have a good weekend J!
beautiful golden shades!
Yours is a WONDERFUL shot...I'd love to see the rest, too! Happy SWF...
This photo is beautiful! How I would love to be there right now, enjoying the warm sun!

BEAUTIFULL .........My favorite time of day XX Don
beautiful sunsets are a gift from nature, you can't ever snap enough, go ahead....
A very calming shot. It feels like a walk on the beach.
Beautiful shot. I like beach shots too.
Beautiful sunset capture! It is amazing what we will do (running) to get good photos but in the end it is so worth it, isn't it?
I love your capture of this beautiful sky.
Thank you for sharing this impressive photo. It must have been a beautiful sight to behold.
Good decision. It reminds me of Naples Pier here in Florida where we always catch sunsets.
I love sunsets and this one is stunning.Happy SWF!
A beautiful shot, and one that makes me begin counting the days left before beach weather arrives!
What a beautifully warm view!
You arrived to Sky Watch at #1. How DO you do that?? :-)
I know exactly what you mean about the beach-front thing. It happened to me in Nova Scotia and it's irresistible.
Happy week-end.
Gorgeous! I wish I was there.
Ahhhhhhhh... this one warms me up nicely!
Doesn't matter how many shots of this you have, keep 'em ALL! =)
Gorgeous!!
