A bit of explanation is in order here. This was at a race at Lowe's Motor Speedway October 7, 2001. The guy you see on the DiamondVision monitor is Peter Jennings announcing to 200,000 of us that the USA had just launched the invasion of Afghanistan. Ironically, part of the pre-race activity was a crowd of 5,000 firefighters from all over the country standing shoulder to shoulder on the track. The assembly reached nearly the entire circumference of the 1.5 mile oval.
Wow that is a Lot of People! Had to go big huh? you can see my grumpy version of "people" here http://aguthrieimages.wordpress.com/2009/06/03/lens-daypeople/

Interesting photo...thanks for the setup!
Definitely ironic. Cool shot for a serious reason.
That's an interesting merging of a whole lot of American reality. Talk about being in two places at once!
