Thematic Photographic 76: "Orange" v.5.0 - Fast, Hot Delivery

Hosted by Written Inc.You've seen this truck before most likely. It's been featured in other "Orange" themes here since its debut in February of this year. And a few other non-color related themes too. This is the working delivery truck for Seaboard Ace Hardware in Seaboard Station. It's a 1942 Ford delivery van, not quite "flawlessly restored", but very close. I can't say about the drivetrain, but the body and trim appears to be original or at least a faithful reproduction. I do know that stumbling upon it on a frosty February morning quite by accident brought forth a cry of delight. (Okay, fine, so I squealed like a girl. You wanna make something of it?)

Hosted by Written Inc.Between editing the photos from a shoot I did yesterday for InterAct of Wake County and trying to get the last editing done on my BlogBlast for Peace post I sort of forgot that I didn't have Thematic v. 74.2 done yet. Fortunately, the car show I attended last May had a host of bright red vintage British sports cars including this Austin Healy 3000. Not that it really needed it, but it appeared that one owner or another of this particular specimen had made a few alterations to the original along the way. The most apparent changes were the fender flares that covered the wider-than-stock tires. Not being fluent in Austin Healy engine compartments, I couldn't tell if there had been mods to the power plant (though the air induction system didn't look stock), but the top and interior appeared to be aftermarket/custom as well. I've always been torn when it comes to customizing a car like this. There just seems something inherently wrong about it. But there's no question that this was still a pristine automobile. And no question about its redness either.

Thematic Photographic 72: "Junk" v.3.0 - Forerunner (Not 4-Runner)
Now this I recognize (you might too, I've featured it here before). This is a 70's-vintage Toyota Land Cruiser (or it used to be anyway). The Land Cruiser was the forerunner of the newer FJ Cruiser, and to a degree I suppose it was the forbear of the 4-Runner compact SUV of not so long ago. (Are those still in production? You don't hear about them anymore.) This particular Land Cruiser apparently had a career as a surf fisherman's steed, judging from the rod rack on the front bumper. Judging from the copious amount of rust on its sheet metal, I'd further guess that it had a long and illustrious career in that capacity.

Thematic Photographic 71: "Open" v.7.0 - Open Wheel
Okay, technically this 1964 Lotus Super Seven isn't an "open wheel car" since it actually does have fenders. But it's probably as close as you'll find to a true open wheel roadster among street legal automobiles. This shot came from what was billed as a "British Antique Car Show" back in May of 2009. I say "billed as" because there were a number of cars there that even a generous definition wouldn't classify as "antique", including the much younger sibling of this car -- a 2000 Lotus Seven. And frankly, I'm not sure how I feel about the term "antique" being used to describe a car built when I was four years old. But it's a photogenic little ride, whatever you call it.
