"Then I swear on you, I will see you safely to Amritsar."
It was easy to believe him. She was surprised to realize that she wanted to believe him. His eyes held a kindness, not unlike her Baba's eyes had. For a long silent moment she considered him.
Gripping his throat, he added, "Bhaia vaadaa."
Notes:bhaia vaadaa: "brother promise"
Update: Owing to G-Man's question a bit of explanation. Gripping one's own throat in India is similar to "crossing one's heart" in America, only taken a bit more seriously.

The psychology at work in the second paragraph 2 is absolutely dead on. Some stories really are the same in any language--the same way some needs are.
I second Sandy. This just continues to be fabulous Mojo. I love our tough little heroine.
I heard that about the snow too, but nope, no new snow for me today! :)

((Delia will be back tomorrow!!))
that glimmer of hope is still strong!
Will she trust or won't she? You expressed a lot in this 55! :)
my 55
My 55 is posted today...scroll down below the flower photos to find it. Come on over if you can find time. Happy weekend.
Who grabbed whose throat?
He gripped his own?
Anyway, promises promises!!
Thanks for playing, and have a Great Week-End...G
I can perfectly understand the relevance of a brother's promise in India. It is almost a word of honor!
Great 55ve James. At least now there is someone she can trust! That is a relief!
evanescence fan? absolutely. amongst many others... have a super weekend mojo!
Wish I had a Bhaiyya like that! Mine is too selfish! :P
Ooohh .. do we think he really means it or are his fingers crossed?
First time here and not used to flash 55's that are a continuation of another.
But it was interesting. He said anad adding "Bhala vaadaa"
55 words is a lot to do
and carry the story too.
We really feel for you.
55 words and we're through.
always hard to trust after what she's been through, but maybe just maybe there is hope to still trust man.
I am completely torn. I want so badly to trust, but has a man ever kept his word to her?
I was hasty and read 'she grabbed his throat'thinking ah she doesn't trust him, then I read it again. I still think she doesn't trust him completely! ;)
Trust is such a wonderful feeling when its right and your instincts haven't failed you. I love this post. My 55 is up please stop by.
Very nice.
Can you just print this out all nice and tidy for me in One page and send it over? I have hampster drive, remember?
:)
I too like the heroine a lot; she's sassy.
How interesting! Thank you for sharing, Mojo.
Sometimes we just have to trust another! I hope it works out for her!! :)
